We kicked-off our first SheDig event in Richfield on October 2, 2019.
We had a great turnout of 60 girls from 8 different schools around the area. Buses dropped the girls off by 9am and we got started. We had Journeypersons and Apprentices ready to explain their own experiences with the Ohio Operating Engineers and we chatted with the high school girls about the entire Apprenticeship Program. The girls received a t-shirt and souvenir photo with logo frame to remember their field trip with us.
From there, the girls headed out to the training field to get hands-on time on various pieces of equipment. They ran backhoes, mini excavators, dozers, a remote control Brokk machine, and a truck crane. After a couple hours of getting to see and operate equipment, they came back in for pizza and a wrap-up. Overall, the girls really enjoyed their day, and their teachers did, too!
We look forward to starting back up again in the fall of 2022!
